The mission of the Economic and Community Development Department is to create employment opportunities for citizens of Tuskegee and to expand the tax base of the community through industrial, commercial, and retail development. We will accomplish this by:
  • Devising and utilizing unique marketing techniques to recruit prospects.
  • Creating and providing competitive incentive packages
  • Administering the City's grants programs
  • Maintaining contact with existing industries and businesses.
  • Working closely with other federal, state local and private economic development organizations to providing technical and financial assistance to Tuskegee businesses and industries.
  • Maintaining and upgrading the City's Moton Field Municipal Airport.

FY 08 Goals

Community Development Division
Industrial Recruitment
  1. Seek to attract a minimum of five industrial visits with the goal of locating at least one new industry in Tuskegee by September 30, 2008.
  2. Identify a speaking opportunity at a business seminar to present business development opportunities in Tuskegee by September 30, 2008.
  3. Assuming funding is available; participate in two industrial trade shows with the goal of developing at least two industrial prospects by September 30, 2008.
  4. Complete redevelopment plan for the Tuskegee Industrial Park, including construction of a new entryway and signage by March 31, 2007.
  5. Design and implement a comprehensive marketing program for Tuskegee Industrial Park by December 31, 2007
Commercial Development
  1. Seek to attract new or expanding commercial developments by locating at least two projects in Tuskegee by September 30, 2008.
  2. Assuming funding is available; plan and attend one commercial trade show by September 30, 2008.
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
  1. Continue infrastructure improvement projects in low-to-moderate income residential areas funded by the Community Development Block Grant. Anticipate completion of grant projects by May 31, 2008.
