The mission of the Information Technology Department is to improve the City staff productivity, decision-making process, and customer service through the use of technology, efficient system configuration, network and database management, and training. This will be achieved by the following actions:
- Providing technical assistance to the City Manager and department heads on Information Technology
- Facilitating City departments involvement in Information Technology processes
- Providing a high level of service and support to City staff and City residents
FY 06 Goals
- Improve the skills of at least 30 employees through the development and implementation of a computer-training program by March 31, 2006.
- Develop and implement a computer program for senior citizens that involve providing at least two computers and two training sessions for senior citizens at the program office by January 1, 2006.
- Develop and implement an intrusion detection system for the computer network by June 30, 2006. This includes the installation of a firewall, proxy server/DMZ, appropriate antivirus/anti-spyware software and server hardening.
- Establish a wireless link between the City, Community Development Corporation and the Tuskegee Housing Authority through which the City can affect distance learning, teleconferencing and other forms of communications by May 1, 2006.
- Develop and implement a wireless mechanism that links the computer network in the Municipal Complex to a wired network in the Gomillion building. This wireless mechanism will allow personnel in the Gomillion building to effect computer-related functions by accessing the server in the Municipal Complex. Additionally, a wireless network will be implemented in the court room, located in the Gomillion building, so that Court staff can use desktop and laptop computers wirelessly. This project will be implemented by September 30, 2006.
- Evaluate and improve the network infrastructure and optimize the operation of each City computer and the overall network. This includes mapping IP addresses; mapping the location of each workstation to correspond to the username and computer name; establishing and implementing an effective naming convention; educating users to expectations and responsibilities when using the network; and ensuring that all computers are free of license agreement violations and copyright infringements by March 1, 2006.
