The mission of the Tuskegee Police Department is to provide professional police and animal control services in partnership with the Tuskegee community to enhance the quality of life to all citizens, by providing a safe environment through the protection of life, property and collection of stray animals, within the framework of the United States Constitution, and by serving with integrity and respect. This will be achieved by the following actions:
- Providing well-trained and equipped police officers
- Maintaining a communication system to provide immediate response to citizen calls for service
- Conducting effective crime prevention programs, including neighborhood watch programs and a citizen academy
FY 08 Goals
- Work with the Office of the City Manager to analyze the space needs of the Police Department and develop a plan to relocate the department to a downtown location by December 31, 2008.
- Develop a five year needs assessment by March 31, 2008.
- Coordinate with Tuskegee University Administration, Public Safety, and Student Affairs to develop a Crime Prevention Program specifically to address the needs of faculty and students by March 31, 2008.
- Work with Human Resources to expand employment recruitment activities to attract a more diversified and qualified applicant pool by September 30, 2008.
- Work with Information Technology to examine the feasibility of installing Mobile Data System in police vehicles to improve the officers' access to vital information in the field and streamline report writing by March 30, 2008.
- Expand the Police Department public education efforts and formulate a plan to expand the efforts in these areas by December 31, 2008.
- Complete implementation of a Crime Prevention / Crime Analysis unit by December 31, 2008.
- Implement the physical fitness program for Police personnel by December 31, 2008.
